Saul answered, “But am I not a Benjamite, from the smallest tribe of Israel and is not my clan the least of all the clans of the tribe of Benjamin? Why do you say such a thing to me?” 1 Samuel 9:21 NIV
Saul felt inadequate for the honor being given him because he believed that his family, his heritage was insignificant. How often do we allow our fears and misconceptions to keep us away from God? It’s true that there are those who do not have a biological family but as believers in Jesus the Christ we always have a church family.
We seek God within the family of God. It is through Jesus that we as believers have become “children of God.” (1 John 3:1-2) We seek God with our family whenever we attend worship services, when we attend a Bible study with the community of believers. We seek God when we have fellowship with our siblings in Christ. Keep studying, keep seeking his face; your family supports your efforts.
We may believe that we are incapable of doing anything important for God because of our background, because of where and/or who we came from. However, God can use the smallest of things, the tiniest step toward your life’s purpose because, just as Jesus taught us, “nothing is impossible for God.” (Matthew 19:26)
Gracious and loving God, thank you for the family of God, my family. Thank you for the Holy Spirit who helps us move forward in your plan and purpose. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
