Money--money--money! We know that having money is a necessity in life. Yet, there is a start warning in our chapter today about having money or money having you! Paul states that the root of all evil is the "love of money." We need to understand, it is not wrong to have adequate finances--even large sums--but it is the attitude we hold that can be either freedom in our lives to a strangle hold!
If all we did in life was work, work work so that our bank accounts were full to overflowing--we would miss the intention of accumulating such wealth. If the focus in life is only making money it begins to rule one's life and it is a road to falling prey to greed,
The key discovered in this chapter is that no matter our bank account, we need to be rich in good works, ready to give willingly, thus storing up for ourselves treasures in God. (For further reading: Matthew 6:19-34)
Fighting the good fight of faith is crucial in order to live a peaceful and focused life in Christ. Our mindset in all things if found in Phiippians 4:12-13, "I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Let us all be generous in love, generous in giving, and generous in sharing our faith with others!
